This is a beautiful exchange, AJ. Does good justice to the high duty we expect of our translators. Both in areas of conflict where life or death action is taken seconds after a translation. And in the literature realm where a translation can be one’s first experience with a foreign culture. Wish that people regarded with more appreciation and less frustration that being untranslatable is not the inability to be translated “but rather something that can be translated infinitely many ways” as Cooperson says.
